Just fitted Wireless PIR which is paired up to I-on 40 no issues. After a period of 30 mins the PIR LED stops responding to movement. I seem to recall the PIR stays in self test mode for the first 30 mins of power-up but then goes into normal mode thereafter.

Thing is I wasn't aware that normal mode means no LED activity or at least no activity while system is in unset mode. Now it may do this to conserve power but that when the system is armed is works. There is no jumper on the device so as to enable/disable the LED.

No sure if this is by design as the documentation provided does not state, any body know?

Don't fit this unit but makes perfect sense to conserve power and isn't uncommon, do wireless systems allow led selection and others just for walk and density setting.
 
Here's the thing, when i place the system into walk test and I test the Radio PIR is does not register a trigger. If I place the system into Installed mode and I remove the tamper for the PIR and in doing so reset the PIR and then repeat the walk test it does trigger the Test. So during the first 30 mins of the sensor being powered up (Automatic self test mode) all appear to be fine but once that period is complete not only does the PIR LED stop working but the self test also does not trigger leaving me to believe the PIR is not registering a trigger. This is a new PIR.

Can anybody confirm what I should be getting from a radio PIR when performing the above.

Also, when cover removed from PIR the system does detect a TA trigger so the tamper is sending a signal back to the I-on.
 
Ion is a one way wireless system. Once activated the pir will go into sleep mode for approx 180 seconds. After the sleep mode the detector will rearm.

Hi Gibbies, Are you saying here that the PIR activity LED will not show activity when the system is unset as per a standard PIR and if so then the only way to test the PIR is functioning correctly is, 1) use the 30 min test period provided when the PIR is first powered up, 2) Arm the system and move within range of the PIR to see if it triggers the system.

The PIR led will only work when powered up or the tamper switch is opened closed. Then the PIR will stay in test mode for approx 10 minutes.
As the system is a basic one way wireless system the panel does not communicate with the PIR to transmit a set/unset status.
 
So if i understand you correctly, PIR can talk one way only (PIR to Alarm) and therefore not set or unset signal from alarm to PIR is possible and after the default power-up period the PIR will no longer flash when movement crosses the PIR path. Further more, when a test is run from the alarm (walk test) and movement passes over the PIR the alarm this will not be detected by the walk test.

So the only way to test the wireless PIR after the ten mins period is to arm the system and try and trigger the PIR?

Put the system into walk test. Wait 3-4 minutes before you test the PIR.
 
Hi,

Placed system into walk-test mode for zone in question, waited 5 mins and then did a walk-test. Check keypad and sure enough zone shows status "A" for activated so it looks to be working correctly and that has you say LED is lit only when placed into test mode. Would have been nice if the info that came with sensor stated that:( Thanks for your help on this.

I had exactly the same issue and question. Tried the walk test as described and it worked as stated :). Agree with leshill1, it's a pity this info isn't in the installation instructions as it's pretty fundamental in my opinion.
 
As a follow-on about this wireless PIR. Yesterday while logged into my i-on40 panel via the web interface and displaying the Program Zones page, my wireless PIR displayed an 'alarm' icon. Further testing showed even though the PIR activity LED didn't light up the PIR reported the activity to the panel which displayed the 'alarm' icon. I understand that this helps to prolong battery life but it wouldn't require much to put this info in the installation instructions.
 
Instructions may have it hidden somewhere.

As a rule wireless sensors only use LED's when walk testing, powering up and learning to save power.
Hard wired detectors may have other options, ie you can turn off LEDs on PIR's and have them only come on during walk test, if you have a wire to an output programmed as walk test. Or first to alarm if multiple units on one circuit.
 
Reviewed the installation instructions, they say: 7. UK. Activity LED. After inserting the batteries or triggering the tamper switch, the detector is put into test mode. The test mode is automatically disabled after 30 minutes.

I was misled into thinking that 'Activity LED' meant any activity all the time. Clearly not.

There's only one jumper (range): Unjumpered - 9m max Jumpered - 5m max
