The French .... Again.. poor jersey

I know, the detail gave us no way we could argue the point. Fair play DJ, your post regarding the “manufacturer” was very .......... thorough.

Ah yes, I forgot, if you don't disclose confidential information it isn't true. Keep your heads in the sand guys, pretend its all OK.

Huge economic powers !!!!! Really so who are they ?

The EU is the world's largest trading bloc, and second largest economy. That is the power I am referring to. But keep pretending they are nothing.

The business I work in is doing great, covid and brexit seem to have done us good, however we have recently been ever reliant on product from the EU of late, rather than the USA, it's not a big problem, but customs is causing us some real headaches and making us less reactive. It's certainly causing me a great deal of stress these past couple of weeks not knowing if the parts or tools are ever going to turn up in time.

Not only that the customs process with the EU has caused delays in recieving parts from other parts of the world also.

I thought it would have improved over time but in fact the opposite is true.

I'm sure we'll get there, I'm not yet convinced the future is bleak, there is a serious ammount of construction work going on up and down the country, the housing market is moving quickly, and there appears to be more jobs opening up as we come out of lockdown. Which is all good signs of a healthy economic future ( or it could be the last hara before the cataclysmic end)

From what I'm seeing at the moment (and long may it continue) it appears to be bright.

What’s it all about then? Is it that the French don’t like the agreement the EU signed up to?

Apparently the French don't want to fill in the forms and prove they have been fishing the waters for x time, it's the latter they have issue with.

For vessels that use the vessel tracking system it's straight forward, however those vessels that choose not to use the vessel tracking system (I'm not sure if it's only mandatory on large vessels) have to provide evidence they have fished the waters for some time, I think jersey are also trying to implement limits they can catch. The problem with the vessels that don't have the tracking system is that they can over fish their quota, and it's well known that they do however proving such has been difficult for jersey because the vessels unload in France..

Basically, yes, under the terms of the Brexit trade deal and fishing agreement, EU boats must prove they have fished those waters in the past in order to get licences to continue operating around Jersey. Some French boats appear to be unable to supply this proof. The French boats have form for 'overfishing' and are known to switch off their AIS tracking systems when fishing, particularly when in waters they shouldn't be of if they're exceeding quotas. Because the Channel Isles have asked for proof of where they've fished and records of catch quantities (which many boats have been happy to supply to protect their historic rights), they've kicked off.

Because of the threat of cutting power, UK Gov is now looking at building interconnectors between here and the Netherlands, who are more politically stable.

Funny thing is, the Channel Isles were never even members of the EU.

Close off the tunnel, patrol the channel so illegals can't get out of french waters, (meaning the french will have to look after them or show the world for the self-centred shower they really are), and slap high taxes/tariffs on any french owned utilities. If they don't pay the tariffs pay them back what they paid for them less depreciation and bring the companies back into British ownership. It's mostly British workers who are running them anyway but the benefits are going across channel. I'm sure there is a way of Britain supplying our islands with power without too much difficulty. It's time this country once again stood up and told others we will no longer be treated as insignificant.
Mind you, to do this we need a government with balls. Why don't we have another Maggie in the wings? Love her or hate her she stood up for this country against others. Not like all the wimps that have followed her.

I didn't think we were even doing the import checks yet. They were planned for next month if I remember right.

If so, things are going to get much worse in the short term. :(

Edit: Nope, we pushed that back by another 6 months because we don't have the infrastructure. We're fine for the short term, more champagne!

There definitely checking paperwork in the UK.

Some import companies have the ability to self certify the import paperwork, we've just started using one so we'll see if that speeds things up.

Its far too confusing to follow this stuff, but it doesn't seem like we're doing all of it yet for non Food goods. There's mention of only basic controls for non Excise goods (Tabacco and Alcohol) and allowing duty to be paid in arrears.

Entry Safety and Security (ENS) declarations for imports delayed from 1 July until 1 January 2022

Will that be the Maggie who supported remain in the 1975 referendum, believed passionately that we should be at the heart of a large European trading bloc and was responsible for the Single European Act and the creation of the EU Single Market, or did you have another one in mind? Maggie Smith, the actress, maybe? Or Maggie Alphonsie, the rugby player? How about Maggie Chapman? She is a politician.
