I have just erected a metal shed or rather my grandson did it for me and I'm rather worried regarding it over heating as I'm using it as a Hen house. One way to control the temperature would be to install a window either side of it but as a result of the frail nature of the structure it can only accept something very light. Can any one suggest where such items would come from?

For a hen house you need permanent ventilation - start cutting some holes!

The shed is well ventilated and I still want to fit a couple of windows.

do you have a picture off the shed ??
you may find that a framework off some sort will be practical to help both wall strength to fix a window too and also space for insulation installation??
and although small heat input lighting and bodies [pets ]do count to the heat input level

I looked for a window on Ebay and I thought I had found one as the page was covered with pictures of wooden windows but a sheet of Perspex turned up so I'm still looking.

i assume they would use words like "glazing" and "instead off glass" rather than window as window is the whole thing including frame and glazing :?::?:

The above picture is of the sort that the Internet is full of which intimates that the item is a window frame and a piece of acrylic and not one of the advertisers that I have contacted actually sell window frames.

the picture is for context an actual window would have several connected questions to do with openers and type as well as number

What a most helpful reply!
not sure what to make off your comment
i am trying to be helpful as in all the emphasis is on glass [plastic size ]where as if it was a full window the questions would be about the makeup off the window as the glazing is secondery would get a breif description as in 3mm clear polycarbon

As far as I'm concerned the pictures of a window that I saw were just that a WINDOW yet not a single one of those who used it are actually offering WINDOWS. I reject your statement that the emphasis is on glass especially as its actually Perspex. Anyway, I'm still looking for a window.

Would a window not make the shed hotter by letting in sunlight?

If you want an opening, cut a hole and have a bit of plywood/rigid plastic or whatever on a hinge. You could even use a greenhouse auto opener. You would probably need a basic frame round it to strengthen the shed.

I've never had a problem with a hen house overheating, and I've never fitted a window to one

From the following?
  1. Aluminium channel or angle
  2. Hinges
  3. Sheets of acrylic
  4. Tube of sealant
  5. Hacksaw
  6. Drill
  7. Pop riveter
