Covid Death Stats: Looking Like Us Doubters May Be Right

People could drown if they go swimming, shall we ban swimming just in case?
A more sensible solution would be to teach your children to swim, fit life buoys where necessary, have life guards on popular beaches and to have signs discouraging bathing and educate people on the dangers of rip tides etc.

A plane could crash, shall we ground every plane just in case?
A more sensible solution would be to set up an investigative body (lets call it say AAI?) when accidents do occur and put in place as many safety features as possible and perhaps use decades of accident information to make safety improvements. Crew aircraft with a trained team and have that team inform passengers etc. We can call them flight attendants.

A car could crash, shall we ban all motor vehicles?
No. But we could make them as safe as is reasonably possible and make it a law that all drivers be insured...?

People could fall off a ladder, shall we ban ladders?
Some ladders should be footed and some ladders belong in a skip. Remember not to pitch them too steep and always tie them off.

Etceteraaaa.

Glad to see this thread keeps going without being locked. 21 pages - at this rate it will be rivalling some of Mottie's and Bodd's blockbuster threads. :D :ROFLMAO:
Poor bodd. His 'world famous' quiz thread got within a whisker of my 'what are you doing today ' thread before fizzling out like a damp firework. Someone should help him kick-start it - he's tried twice but I’m afraid it just it doesn’t have the je ne sais pas quoi of one of my threads. I’m surprised he’s not been on here with his "Roll up, roll up, come on over to my thread" spiel yet.:LOL:

He's going to have to offer incentives. I dunno, Nectar Points for each post. That should do it. ;)

Although Bodd did not see the need to flood the thread with his own posts. That would be very tedious.

A thing about people like plumber and some others, not many really in the entire uk population is that statics say that one day the will catch covid unless it just dies away. As controls are removed the chances get higher and higher just as they get lower and lower as more controls are added. So some will be able to speak directly from experience one day. Some might say I've had it so all is ok - whoops, there really is a chance that they can catch it again.

Some one has had both jabs. Tricky, as they have said some will still die or need treatment if they catch it. Some one has had 1 jab - ok but it's not as good as 2.

The Indian variant is increasing at a similar rate to the way the Kent one did. It may be the next one in a month or so. That's how quickly they catch on. What variant comes next?

So are we close to a 100% solution - no.

If overseas variants really are such a problem, why are we letting 20,000 people into the country each day? Not sure I would be booking any foreign holidays just yet.
There are tests, confinement and paperwork restrictions in place, designed to prevent any import of any cases of Covid.
If the government do not, or cannot back that up with policing it, and using track and trace, then the regulations are pointless and superfluous.

As far as I am aware, you still cannot travel abroad from UK for pleasure.
