How to get this finish

Hi everyone, I have a wooden platform in my flat that (currently painted white) I want to re-decorate so that it looks just like the black / slate shelf in the attached images. Apologies for the poor image quality, but it's the best I can do as I screen-grabbed them from a video.

Do you think I would be better off painting it in a slate colour? Or any other recommendations, such an veneer or vinyl wraps? What do you reckon would be my best option to replicate it?

Sand it down smooth,

Use a dark coloured primer. 1x coat

Lightly sand

Purchase some satin gloss black

Use a high quality gloss roller to paint (not the foam ones)

Sand

Do another coat

Sand

Final coat.

You might be able to spray it also.

I don't think you would get the look with vinyl, and veneer can be very tricky
