ID cards for Voting

If i go to a bank to withdraw money i have to use my bank card and pin number.
That in itself constitutes a form of I.D.
Is it possible to walk into a bank without any i.d. whatsoever and withdraw money.

Sorry, but why are you talking about walking into a bank - this is about voting.

Reasons not to have a card:
  1. a waste of tax payers money
  2. the UK does not suffer from voting fraud
  3. criminals will learn to forge them
  4. ID creep - more people will demand they see your ID to access services, could cause unforeseen problems and curtail freedom
I cannot understand the aversion towards carrying an official ID card (like drivers license) and be required to produce it, especially to the police if you get stopped.

But, why not just use NI cards? OK, they could be forged, but the chances of a voting fraudster knowing your name and your NI number seems remote, and new cards would be sent to your address, so not possible to get somebody else's card sent to a fraudulent address. Everybody of voting age can have one for free. They could easily make that work.

Of course, whatever form of ID suits, as long as it's an official document and with preferably with photo. A drivers licence, passport, or a special National ID card with photo, since many people do not have drivers licenses (myself for example). And passports are way too bulky.

Can you walk into the bank and withdraw cash without some ID? Why should you be able to vote without your ID then? Or do anything important for that matter? Almost everyone carries their driving license on them, what's wrong with that? This is a genuine question, I cannot understand the aversion towards carrying an official ID card (like drivers license) and be required to produce it, especially to the police if you get stopped.

They cannot provide a suitable reason.

They are being obtuse for the sake of being obtuse. They don't like change, much more so if the Tory party introduce it.

Had it been labour or any other political party they'll be all over it like a tramp on chips.

Remember your bank cards are form of ID and have been used by merchants and banks to verify who you are.

Sort of,

Because they can never know if you are the correct person holding the card as they don't have photos.

That is why you cannot get s mortgage without photographic proof you are who you say you are.

yep, that's the Johnson supporters for you.

passing round some vague rumour about "allegations" and "suspicions" to rush through an unwanted law to help the Tory vote.

It's called a police state...

Look it up. It might enlighten you!

Of course you could go and take a peek at certain countries to see the future that the UK is heading towards...

Stupid is as stupid does!

So explain this

Of course, this was when labour home secretary suggested it!

Driving and therefore having a licence is not compulsory.
Travelling abroad and therefore having a passport is not compulsory.
Having a travel card is not compulsory.
Getting a mortgage is not compulsory.
Having a bank account is not compulsory.

Neither is voting but if, like the examples you give above, you want to exercise your right to do so, what’s wrong with proving who you are?

True it's not compulsory, which is a pity in one way. But it is encouraged and should not be discouraged by placing difficulties in the way.
