Hi
I have just built a walled barbecue area which I will be decking out and building a brick barbecue in. Can anyone suggest what I could use as a sort of roof to keep water dripping off trees into it? I was thinking something going up from back to front at approx 45 degrees just to keep rain water from dripping. Roughly 2m wide by 1m depth, and having supports on front edge to angle it down the back.

I'd suggest a metal canopy. Maybe corrugated iron. because it will not catch fire. With a chimney.

Over mine I have a large chimney-style stainless steel cooker hood (I got off ebay for next to nothing) with a stainless flue pipe as a chimney to draw the smoke and fumes away; but yours is considerably bigger, and closer to trees.

That is hilarious. I love the way he just watches it burn for the first two minutes before deciding to do something about it...
One of our customers (BG engineer) told us to separate all the wood out from our building waste, after demolishing a building as part of a project.

He set about stacking all the wood into a bonfire. I asked him if he was seriously considering setting fire to the lot and burning it all in one go??? He casually shrugged his shoulders and carried on. I'll never forget the look on his face as he dashed passed us to get the garden hose to try and save his plastic fascias and gutter.
Both were ruined on the same elevation as his spectacular bonfire.

Priceless.

Thats the bit I dont get.

How could anybody not permanently confined in a secure institution not have known what was bound to happen? He must have wanted to set fire to everything.

If my better half stood filming me whilst I was running around trying to put out a fire that may burn the entire garden down, rather than helping, I would be having a word!

By the time you've cut the hedge back a safe enough distance from the bbq area, you'll be needing to build a roof just to hide the brown dead mess of the former hedge :censored:

This.

As for roofing material.. it will inevitably have a wooden frame, which according to all the posts here will spontaneously combust with the BBQ on.... A tin roof will be fine, though even a a clear plastic roof will be fine with just a BBQ under it. You won't be running massive flames under it like a fire pit

Water dripping on your BBQ will be the least of your worries.

My neighbour used to have a row of Leylandii trees. It was nice as it screened their house from ours at the bottom of the garden. One day he had a barbecue too close to the trees (further away than yours). The whole lot went up taking our trampoline, garden shed and his fence with it. The centre of those trees are dead, dry and like a tinderbox.

as above, you need to move the BBQ, or the trees.

Thanks for the sensible reply, & not hijacking this thread for your own amusement! Like you say Im not having a bonfire, its a barbecue & funnily enough it will not be left unattended. All I was after is a bit of advice for a shelter/roof, & also the idea of it is to block the view from in the trees. I think I have found a solution in a tile effect metal sheet, which I will just angle up to also aid water running away. I have been having barbecues in that same area for years, the only difference now is Ive built a wall around the area.

I don't know if it's worth bothering with tile effect as you will be looking at it from underneath anyway

Based in Buckie you have planwell roofing supplies, they manufacture box profile.
