Little hot water from electric shower

I have a gainsborough electric shower that was working until this morning when the flow rate on the cold seems fine but when I turn the switch to hot on the shower, very little water comes out, although the little bit of water that does come out does get hot.

Any ideas what the problem is? Is it a faulty shower?

1. Might just be the filter needs cleaning. Have a look at https://www.plumbworld.co.uk/documents/gainsborough-electric-shower-installation-guide.pdf
2. Make absolutely sure the electricity is isolated. If in doubt, turn off the main consumer unit switch. Don't rely on switching off the appropriate circuit breaker.
3. Also make sure the water is turned off.

You are turning it too high. Turn it too high and electric showers are designed to cut out, rather than scald you.

the flow rate reduces drastically to trickling as soon as the dial is turned to hot. it could be the sensor on the shower is broken.

If I understand you correctly and that is a basic electric shower, that is what is supposed to happen.

The temperature of the water is controlled by a tap in the flow to the element - the higher the flow rate, the cooler it runs; restricting the flow gives the water more opportunity to warm up, so it comes out hotter. Set it too hot and a thermostat will trip, to avoid you scalding yourself. It might also be worth checking the filter on the input to the shower is clear.

yeah, when you turn the dial to hot, the flow rate reduces, which is normal. however, it has started to reduce the water flow too much so you don't get much hot water at all.
