Front and back door are painted black, and frames white.

Doors are wood and have 2 glass panels side by side. Paint has been peeling, mainly just on the trim around the glass panels on the front door, which looks to be PVC, not wood.

Doors probably were painted 9 years ago before moved in.

Only ever painted walls so what is the best way to tackle this?

From reading I think I have to:

Clean doors with sugar soap.
Sand down areas where paint is peeling so it's smooth.
Use woodfiller in holes etc
Clean doors and wood work again
Use a primer and undercoat, Dulux has a 2 in 1. Should primer be white?
Then top coat, probably black again, thinking Dulux weathershield exterior.
Then exterior white for the frame

Does that sound right?

Was going to paint the inside of both doors white and the full length window frame at side of front door. Would you use a different white paint than the front frame, interior, rather that the same exterior. Etc.

Sorry if this is long. First time painting anything other that internal walls and just want to get it right.

Thanks

Photos, especially of the peeling paint, will help.

All the loose stuff has to come off.

How old is the wood?

Is it exposed to the weather?

Bright sunlight causes black paint to overheat and degrade.

Mainly just around the window trim on door.

Minor flaking at edge of one glass panes to the left side of the door, but believe that that particular pane of glass was replaced at some point, hence paint damaged when removing trim to replace glass

Photo added, as flaking on the door is just the trim around the window, could whole door need primed or just do the trim? Trim is white when paint flaked off, sanded off flaking paint on trim already

That's the only window at the side with flaking, same at inside of window so probably cause by glass being replaced.

Looks as if back of door and the internal white frame were painted with the same paint.

Tried wiping cotton wool dipped in methanol on the door and frames, no paint came off or transferred, so does this make it oiled based.

Everywhere seems to just have water based primers, topcoats etc, so what is the best way to go about painting, since nowhere seems to sell oil based paints. Was looking at the Dulux primer and undercoat paint then Dulux weathershield black, which are water based

Can you show us the edges of the door at the side and top please. Close up of any joints. And of peeling patches.

I am not at all sure what it's made of.

Door looks to be mostly, all scrapes and marks reveal wood beneath. But the trim around the door windows is white underneath, probably different wood that the door, looked plastic at first
