Hi,
I am hoping to build an attached pergola which will sit on a paved patio.
I've tried my best to sketch some very rough drawings of what I am looking to do. Although it is rough the scale is reasonably accurate. The pergola would be 6.5 metres long and 4 metres wide, with the wall plates at around 2.4 metres.
I am currently planning to use 90mm square posts with the rest of the timber, including the wall plates, being 145mm x 45mm, all pressure treated.
I would have preferred to use thicker posts (ideally 150mm) but 90 is the best I can find at short notice (I can get 100mm rough surface posts, but by the time I have planed the surfaces there won't be much difference).
These are the posts - https://www.diy.com/departments/premium-square-pergola-beam-h-3000mm-w-90mm/5022652848408_BQ.prd
And this is the other timber - https://www.diy.com/departments/rou...k-timber-l-4-8m-w-145mm-t-45mm/1798322_BQ.prd
Not my preferred source of timber, but again I am limited with what I can get quickly.
The patio pavers are 600mm x 600mm x 50mm and I am hoping to bolt the posts directly to the pavers using one of the various post shoes, rather than having to create a concrete base.
I will add a lightweight system to block the sun for now, but I also plan to pitch the top, to give the option to add some kind of simple watertight roof later.
I'd like to get peoples thoughts on whether the materials specified and the post fixing method would be suitable.
Any input would be much appreciated.
