Lawn weed which I can’t identify..

Hi all

I’ve got a horrible l, invasive weed that’s been there a couple of months but starting to take over my lawn - see pics

any ideas what it is and how to remove?

mow the lawn short and frequently. There are very few weeds that can survive being cut off every week or two.

A few have evolved to grow low and flat and become lawn weeds, and you can get a lawn weedkiller, but I don't think that's what you have.

Have you given it a dose of weed killer, it looks like buttercup thats been hit with it?

Yeah, looks like buttercup. Water it well to soften the ground, then grabbing the base gently, lifting and working your way around the base ease it out. With luck it will all come out in one go.

Thanks everyone, I hadn’t thought about buttercup, hasn’t been any yellow flowers yet but looking at pictures the leaves are similar so I suppose it must be buttercup !

Definitely a kind of buttercup. Here ya go:-It's not cheap but goes a long way and the Queen uses it:-

Oh and BTW some rascals charge too much for it so be warned. It can take few weeks to get rid but I not yet found anything that it won't kill.

I would go for buttrcup too. I have it in my borders and I am forever pulling out clumps of the stuff.

Defo buttercup. Easy to pull out at the tap root once you've identified where the stalks are centred. They do tend to "branch out" and re-root further along. Mowing wont get rid of, as they tend to lie closer to the ground than you would want the grass cut.

Probably buttercup, but wild geranium (cranesbill) has a similar leaf.

Creeping buttercup, 100%. I have to wear gloves when pulling it up as the sap irritates my skin.
