Range Tribune Question

It crossed my mind, would you expect the pump to be more expensive to run than heating the water with gas?

The pump has to run with the gas boiler. As the name suggests it pumps the hot water, that the boiler heats around the pipes which in turn heat up the water on your cylinder.

I think it may just be the pump. The tank was still running. I didn’t consider the pump may be more expensive to run than the boiler, but I guess it is.

thanks for all who contributed

An older pump is around 70 watts and the latest high efficiency pumps say 1/2 that...so a penny an hour ish.

The peaks in electricity use will be heating appliances or those that have heating elements in them such as an electric cooker, hob, kettle, dishwasher, tumble dryer, washing machine and so on.
Most everything else in a typical home is tiny by comparison.
