Got home today and and found a small piece of the corrugated roofing in the garden which had come off the garage.

Is this Asbestos.

Thanks for any advice. The house was built in the 1930s as was the garage.

Yes highly likely. But chrysotile, the least hazardous type and relatively low risk unless you literally chew it for years.

Dampen and bag it.

In my area, the local council recycling centre (tip) accept small quantities of double-bagged asbestos waste. Suggest your council as the best starting point.

Thanks Woody. If I dampen and bag it where can I take it to dispose?
I would just put it in your kitchen bin rubbish for such a small piece

Or take it to the tip and throw it in the landfill skip - covertly in a bag of other stuff!

But yeah, try the council first if they will accept if "officially"

Or if you are a scaffolder or plumber, just throw it out the car/van/lorry window along with the energy drinks cans and Maccies wrappers.
