Before covid, we had a new kitchen fitted.

Prior to the new kitchen, the boiler had about 100mm clearance to the left. It now has about 2mm.

We weren't particularly happy with parts of the job and the firm sent out someone to assess the work. He questioned if the boiler should be so close to the edge of the unit.

The boiler is a potterton performa 30 he.

The installation manual says that a minimum of 5mm is required on the left. It then says that if in a timber building you need to refer to "blah, blah, blah". By timber building, I take that they are referring to the whole building, rather than the actual housing surrounding the boiler.

Personally I don't see a problem with the boiler as it currently is but I would appreciate some advice. The boiler is out of warranty, the current set up has not been a problem for the last year or so but I don't want find ourselves in a situation where a plumber condemns it because of 3mm of clearance.

Tnx in advance.

Timber framed building is what you’re referring to, most modern boilers can be housed in a kitchen unit. As long as the cover can be removed and any drop down panels actually drop down, shouldn’t be an issue.

If its a major problem, surely you can remove the left hand panel, cut a boiler sized hole out of it, still retaining enough frame to support the hinges, and put it back?

Invisible when cupboard is closed.

You'll get 18mm clearance then.

Problems only arise when the boiler needs servicing or developes a fault.

If the engineer can't remove/replace the casing or access components because the manufacturer's stated minimum clearances have not been adhered to he is not likely inclined to start butchering units on the customers behalf.
