Hello

Will a plasterer be able to plasterboard and skim over a lath and plaster ceiling?

Many thanks

what's wrong with the ceiling, eg, badly cracked, loose areas/coming away from the lath etc?

Thank you. I will post pictures tomorrow.

Ceiling is 120 years old and it has a few cracks.

Yes. Most of our L&P ceilings came down, but we had to keep one to retain the decorative plaster cornice. This ceiling was badly cracked. I overboarded using 9mm PB stuck up with foam adhesive supplemented with screws into the joists. I used foam as the old ceiling wasn't totally flat and the foam took up the gaps. Edged in rebated MDF profile to cover the raw edge it worked a treat. Very solid, looks great and plasterer had no issues.
