Anyone got thoughts on budget tyres.

I'm a car guy and always fit decent tyres, however our A4 b7 seems to go through a pair of front tyres every 12k miles.

It's had countless front control arms (very common failure on these) and they've just been changed 6 months ago along with 4 wheel laser alignment once again.

Anyway as they don't last long I'm thinking of just putting budgets on it with decent EPC ratings,

Do people think it would just be an even bigger waste of money with the tyres wearing out even quicker

Try Michelin cross climate extra load.
My b5 is like on rails with them and have lasted 4 years.

Surely it's not a ford fiesta, why would you put cheap tyres on a monster car, surely over 3 litre?

Lol, no it's a Quattro 2.0tfsi.

I wouldn't normally put budgets on, usually go for decent tyres, last time I went for hankooks.

Misses just found the reciept for the set of tyres we put on, was hankook something, but back in 2017 so they are actually 4 years and done 24k miles (shows how fast time is going by and I'm not realising) So still not great on the mileage but a bit happier knowing it was 4 years.

The cars getting a bit old now, I've always treated it like a princess but now it's starting to look a little tired with rust coming through on one of the front wings etc also money is a bit tight this month, so im less inclined to spunk loads of dosh on it, and it's had plenty over the years believe me, oil changes every 3k miles, wants for nothing and always top quality parts, this will be the first cheap thing I've bought for it.

I'll see how I get on, if they ok I've had a winner, if not it's only £100 so not the end of the world and I'll get something different

"If you use an inferior grade/rating of tyre,"

What does that have to do with the make, which is what is being discussed ?

Be thankful you don't have to replace these every 25k miles.

My car is on it's 4th set. I did 82000 in 28 months.
If you use an inferior grade/rating of tyre, your insurance co may take a dim view if you have an accident.

Well the tyre ratings of the "budgets" I've purchased, are better than the pirelli in your link..

So are the ratings meaningful in any way?

Theory states that according to the label these should not be ditch finders....

My only thought is that these being half the price of the last set of tyres I bought they may likely last half as long

We'll see in due course, they are being installed next Friday along with a hunter 4 wheel alignment so ill keep the thread updated.

If you don't hear from me I'm in a ditch :ROFLMAO:

I would always be very careful with lesser-known makes as there will be some happy to completely fake everything.

I've just bought 4 Continental Sport Contact SUV 18" tyres.

Was talking about it with a friend at work and he tried a set of budget tyres and they didn't last very long at all tread wear wise.

I've never had a complaint with the Continentals so money well spent.

I would never skimp on either tyres or brakes, most important parts of the car safety wise.

When the tracking is done make sure the steering rack is centralised! Unequal track rod lengths can cause excessive tyre wear.

Yeah it was done recently, and was done about a year before that with the previous front arm replacement.

It's always driven straight
