My outside Drain gets lots of Dirt clogging it up. It is on a slight downward slope. The Drain cover does not fit properly and has had to be cut because of the two pipes.

I'm thinking of very fine mesh fitted somehow?

Have you removed a cover/grid at the top before you have taken the photo (you mention that it has to be cut around the pipes). If you have a grid at the top which prevents large items from falling down the hole why not remove the other plastic grid lower down which is always going to catch debris and clog up?

No, there isn't a grid at the top, just the standard black plastic cover which is split anyway (inherited when I moved in). If I do as you suggest then the dirt etc will go down into the Drain and possibley clog that up in the future?

what kind of dirt? from the path, or from the pipes?

one of your problems is the ground levels are way too high, the original ground level would be pretty much level with the grating, plus an inch. outside areas do need to be kept clean and clear, which is easier if the drains aren't down a big hole. Are there any trees shedding leaves into the area or soil areas eroding onto the path area?

The other problem is those two pipes should be fed in below the bottom grating, presume they are kitchen sink/dishwasher? Pipes of that nature should ideally go into a stack to the underground drain for hygiene reasons, but that's not how it always is on an old house.

It looks as if the ground level has been raised several times in the past, with multiple layers. Assuming the present ground level is not causing other issues - damp due to DPC being covered, then.....

I would take out completely the metal grid and fit a new one at the actual ground level, with cut outs for those pipes. I would maybe consider extending those pipes too, so the discharge below that original grid level.
