Hi,

Had to replace my bath waste/trap recently and only when emptying a bath it drips. Showering and filling the bath is fine which suggests the plug and it's seal are ok.

It's almost as if the gravity of a full bath is causing the water to overflow in the trap and come back out. It's a McAlpine bath waste/filler combo. Bath overflow is fine.

I put a thin bead of silicone (Dow 785+) on the rubber seal between the trap and the bath. Waited 27 hours before testing.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Thanks.

Just to add it's dripping at a certain position rather than everywhere/multiple points.

As I say, that's when draining a full bath.

No signs of this issue at all when;

showering
run the bath filler at full pelt with the plug open (the filler is right above the waste)
filling the bath (even up to full) with the plug closed
a rested full bath
a half-full bath with someone in it
emptying somewhere around a half-full bath or less
massively overfilling the bath so the overflow is used

Full means filled to just under the overflow.

Since OP I have taken it off, cleaned off the silicone, refitted, and this time waited over a week for the silicone to go off before testing the full bath drain method.

Is bath skin wet ABOVE those droplets?
Looks like it's running down from higher up and gathering just above waste, to form droplets and then drip off.
I'm thinking condensation!

Would it be that ONLY when draining though? And only when it's full. As the bath is draining the water reduces and eventually eventually slows, almost stops, when it's drained past that halfway mark I mentioned.

Haven't checked much higher up to be honest, but now you say that the join between seal and bath is hardly wet!! Not anywhere near wet enough for what lands on the floor boards.

I was originally thinking the gravity of a full bath draining is overfilling the trap and water is coming back up and through the seal!

I'll do another test and pay closer attention higher up.

Finally got it sorted. Binned the supplied rubber washer that sits between the waste and bottom of the bath and used Fernox LSX after seeing it mentioned on older posts here.

Something with my bath obviously not right with this waste's supplied washer vs. previous waste and washer.

Thanks for the replies
