Reducing manhole opening

I've purchased a recessed manhole cover, placed the undertray of the manhole cover over the opening but on all 4 sides the cover doesnt fully sit on the bricks, the cover only sits on the bricks by approx half an inch or so

I'm guessing this will not be adequate enough to secure?

What are the options to reduced the opening on all 4 sides by a couple of inches so the cover fully sits on the bricks?

Double checked measurements, its less than an inch! its approx 10mm on all 4 sides, is this sufficient?

Corbell the top course of bricks, (knock them off and rebuild a bit further in). Or buy a bigger cover.
