Hi,

I just want to double check everything I'm planning on doing is correct before I go ahead. I want to install a smart switch that requires a neutral at the switch (my circuit is looped in at the rose rather than the switch).

My plan is to replace the 2-Core and earth with equivalent 3-core and earth where I need a smart switch. As the 3-core is brown/black and grey, I'd use the brown live, black (sleeved brown) for switch, and sleeve the grey blue for the neutral (until I install the smart switch as I'm in the middle of renovations currently, i'd connect this to earth and sleeve appropriately).

I mainly want to check that this setup would be correct and I'm not leaving any weird surprises for anyone who ever works on the switches in future (I also don't want to have replace the cable in the future as I did something incorrect)

You are correct, 1mm2 is all that is required.
Work safely now!

Why would you not want to connect the Neutral at the rose and just leave it in a spare connecter at the switch ready.

It's just me been (over) cautious, prob not going to be using the Neutral for a couple of months, plus easy to access both ends, tbh there isn't really a good reason :)

Just did this to all my switches bar one so I could get a neutral at the switch to put smart relays/dimmers in, I just replaced the old cable with 3&e and put new jb in at the ceiling

Thanks for advice on this, replaced the wire and added a smart switch (went for the Shelly Dimmer 2 in the end) and everything works perfectly

Various Shelly all over my flat bar the bathroom as it’s the only one I haven’t dropped a neutral to yet as the weather was too hot to work in the attic
