Strimmer and Hedge Trimmer: Petrol or Battery?

After spending the best part of the afternoon trying (and failing!) to start two different petrol strimmers and petrol hedge trimmers, I’ve realised I need to invest in some new garden equipment before we are overgrown.

Current hedge trimmers have 28” blade, and the strimmers have a 30cm+ cutting radius. I’d want to replace with similar. After buying used/cheap previously I’ve realised it’s false economy. We have a pretty big garden, some of which is woodland. I need something that is going to cope with some reasonable hammer (although not daily use.)

I know battery technology is coming on fast: I’m wondering whether now is the time to take the plunge and buy battery powered. If I bought the same brand they could share batteries. I’ve looked at a few and there seems to be a bewildering choice at varying price points. I”m unsure if for similar money to petrol equipment I can get battery powered that will offer similar performance, or will it be too ‘lightweight’ for the task in hand.

Has anyone any experience of battery-powered strimmers or hedge-trimmers? Any recommendations?

I had a battery powered lawnmower a few years ago and to be honest it was carp. I think the only worthwhile battery tools are drills etc.
To me, personally, gardening gear should be electric or petrol driven because they often need to be 'heavy duty'.

I don't use petrol garden tools enough to warrant the maintenance. So I've recently gone for the dewalt hedge timmer and dewalt strimmer as I've got other dewalt power tools. More than happy with both and so much more convenient and pleasant to use.

My next door has battery powered strimmer and a G-Tech mower, he gets through most of his hedge and the battery runs out same with the mower.

I best buy was a Sthil 45, its cuts 150 metres of hawthorn hedge no problem.

Two years ago I found a hedgehog in my garden in the middle of the day. It was under the garden bench in the shade. It was almost dead so, I gathered it up and to it to the SSPCA. Two days later I contacted them to ask about it. They said that they thought it had been injured by a strimmer and they had to put it to sleep.
They said that happens all the time.
I've not strimmed since.
