Hi all,

Re-jigging a kitchen and would like to put a larder unit in the corner where the electrical supply incoming and consumer unit is locatated.

There will be an electric oven above the consumer unit/incoming supply.

Anything in regs to watch out for here?

That CU at floor level would be a pain to work on without a cupboard in the way...not a wise choice of location. And a waste of a cupboard, storing anything in there will also be unwise

Access to equipment, which includes the consumer unit, the meter and the cutout.
All of that should have been relocated before the kitchen was installed.

Its a small kitchen in a 2 bed groud floor flat..my supply splits off before the meter and supplys the flat above me. Theres no other sensible place for it to go. The mains come up through the concrete from the shared lobby area. Dont think the council as freeholder would approve this kind of major work.

I think he's being a bit over the top TBH, yeah its not great but I've seen far worse at least you can get to stuff, maybe the cutout would be a pain to work on because its side on (and maybe if it ever needed changing the DNO might assess as unsafe to do live and need to excavate the cable, or need to disaeemble the kitchen a bit).

If I had to work on that board, I'd moan a little and request the cupboard was emptied but wouldn't be the end of the world, and if knew I'd be at it board for a while I'd turn up with the cushion I keep for such things!

But at least it's not all on the side wall.

The cu and meter are fine where they are.

Quite normal, no worse than a small cupboard under the stairs.

A nice big 600mm unit, so room for an electrician to work in.

It's not 'perfect' we know, but in the real world it will stay where it is - it would be too expensive to move for little benefit.

Could the cupboard not be installed on wheels, with a quick release fixing at the top for stability - so when work is needed, it can just be wheeled out?

That's how I did my gas boiler's wall cupboard, made from a base unit. It can be removed / refitted in minutes.
