Anyone with knowledge of hydraulic/pneumatic hoses?

Evening all.

I guess this is the right place to bring this up as it isn't related to construction.....

I have a small project on the go, long story (think Fred in the shed bodging). Need to make a flexible pneumatic hose up. Struggling with terminology etc to identify what is needed. Hoping someone has experience in this subject area?

Hose length approx. 1.5m. Needs quick connect fittings both ends. First end I have identified as Foster FST series, size 12 male (1/8"). Other end can be any type. System pressure will ideally be up to 500 psi.

Things I can't seem to get to the bottom of:
1. Can't seem to find much in the way of pneumatic hose that will withstand the above pressure. Have found the odd offering with 40 bar (roughly 500 psi) burst pressure rating but nothing rated for continuous use at that pressure. Am I looking for something that doesn't exist? If yes, can I use hydraulic hose?
2. The Foster couplings seem to have either NPT/FPT/MPT or Metric parallel threads ie. 10mm. How do I go about connecting these to whatever hose becomes available?

Maybe an unusual one for this forum? Any ideas about a more appropriate site to bash this about very welcome.

TIA

dunno , have you tried looking at brake line equipment ???

car builder solutions do diy flexable brake line DIY kits ??????? and a host of fittings for all sorts of scenarios

goodridge aeroquip do hoses etc ???????

Transam........Hmmm. Thanks for that. Quick Google reveals that typical pressure in the break lines of a modern vehicle is in the region of 40 bar. So could be a useful avenue to explore. I'll have a butchers when I get 5.

I'm going to watch this thread closely with 'intense' interest.

There is nothing, absolutely Now't, that you can do with hydraulics or pneumatics that hasn't been done before.

I'm struggling to interpret your requirements, but are you looking for a flexible hose that can handle an excess of 500psi?

Why?

Why does it need to be flexible & why does it need to handle 500psi?

I have used this company many times, they are very helpful..........https://www.hheltd.co.uk/

They operate in Coventry, I'm sure there will be other such providers.

Sorry the site is not working, try ringing them.

Thank you. So I guess they are happy with a pick up the phone and ask lots of questions kind of fair, right?

Respectfully, the reason I have asked for advice here is because I do not know what has or has not been done before. If I had the benefit of having that knowledge I wouldn't need to politely ask more knowledgeable people for helpful information.

I am looking for a hose that is capable of withstanding 500 psi max. Why? Because I want to send compressed air from vessel A to vessel B via a flexible hose. Unable to use solid pipe. Pressure will be 500 psi momentarily, then taper off down to ambient air pressure over a period of a few minutes.

Like I said, long story. Trying not to get into an elaborate explanation about the while system as this is unnecessary. Looking for info regarding pneumatic hoses and what is or is not available along with compatibility of fittings. Nothing more than that.

For that sort of pressure I'd visit a local pneumatics place and have one made.
First off, you need the correct hose, and have someone who is experienced terminate the ends.

It isn't that expensive.

500 psi thats what 35 bars ?? ish ??

domestic plumbing kit generally good for 10 bar working pressure ? ish ? def not flexi tap connectors though they would blow apart

you can get a a complete flexi brake line kit made up for cars seen it on competion cars but it was very expensive , some thing like

20£ an inch ?????????? or more

Thanks. So are you saying that essentially this is feasible but is a specialist job?

I would say hydraulic hose and quick couplings.

the hoses are pretty stiff compared to pneumatic.

hydraulic plants services are pretty common….it’s used in most farming machinery and construction like JCBs.

Yeah that's about the right ball park...... Twenty quid an inch? Won't be using that then.

Have you tried scuba diving suppliers - I think they use high air pressure for tanks

Will explore this. Suppose it would be reasonably straight forward to use something like a male/male adaptor to convert hydraulic fitting to appropriate thread for pneumatic fitting that I need (such as NPT thread).

I've looked at scuba equipment extensively. It seems that the first stage regulator reduces pressure down to a manageable figure of around 100 psi (from around 3000 psi). So I'm not so sure about going down this road. Obviously, happy to be corrected on the above though if anyone knows different.

Suppose they have to fill the tank with super high pressure though..... Hmmm :?:
