Stop and Search powers to be made permanent

Why does everyone fail to understand that making Stop & Search more random does not increase the chances of capturing a criminal - it just adds more noise or sampling error. But I suppose understanding basic stats and sampling is too much to ask.

Probably because you are being really silly! Logically the more who are stopped the more potential crimes will be picked up, if you stop no one, then S&S will find no criminals ever.

The problem with stop and search is that nobody really knows if it actually prevents crime. Of course, the odd stop/search might reveal a set of burglary tools, which could be said to be preventing a crime, but that is really very rare. More than 60% of stop/searches that are claimed to be successful only pick up personal quantities of recreational drugs, which plenty of people don't regard as real crime.

I wonder what the figures are compared to the local demographic? My son has been stopped two or three times over the last 10 years but he tells me some of his friends have regularly been stopped, which he reckons is because the cars they drive. They are mostly white boys, which leads me to believe the stop and search figures in our area is probably predominantly white.

police resources are finite, so if you have more out doing stop and search, you take officers away from other activities.
IME, in terms of dealing with general crime, they concentrate on the ones that can be quickly and easily dealt with.

Instead of showing your low IQ by resorting to name calling why not just answer the question?

Your post which I quoted was deserving of the response. Snowflake.

Perhaps read again what I posted.

Again you are being thick. Or you cannot follow an argument. No one is arguing against stop and search - but making it easier to do isn't going to be a panacea.

"The plan is a rehash of old and existing ideas, such as more hi-vis clothing for community service offenders, electronic tagging on prison leavers and the relaxation of restrictions on stop-and-search powers, and very little else. It will not work because it has not been designed to work. It has been designed to be noticed."

Bojo know how to trigger his followers. Bojo didn't even discuss his plans with the Police commissioners. Like Brexit it is there for the soundbites not the detail.

Mr Gigzy, how dare you? Don't mention Gals name calling or Nosey'll be along to call you a troll!:cautious:

There is no such thing as an absolute fix for crime, I doubt anyone could reasonably expect one, apart from locking everyone up.

Getting noticed in itself will help reduce crime levels.

On a different point - a couple of years ago we had a group of around a dozen offenders working on the (very overgrown with brambles) nature reserve alongside our garden, all in high-vis vests. I have never seen any before. They all looked very sorry for themselves, working for weeks clearing 3 acres of thick bramble and entirely pointless, it's as thick again.

Which proves the point - it's all for show and a gimmick. Chain Gangs haven't reduced crime in the US and they used inmates as firefighers as well. When the evidence shows it doesnt work - why do you still want to persist with it?

What we need is a better funded police force with better training and numbers but that costs money and I suppose why spend money on that when you can give contracts to your mates.

You will find that the post I responded to - he never asked a question. So not sure what he was on about. So you are defending a guy who has no idea what hes carping on about - which makes perfect sense.

One day you will be able to tell the time. (y)

To do what with those they catch, remember chain gangs don't work :)

that's the method used in USA for a large proportion of the population, and it is singularly unsuccessful

I can answer that. It’s nothing to do with race, it’s because they want the latest phone and don’t want to work and save up for it. They think they have a God given right to just help themselves to other peoples stuff.
You mean like grabbing thousands of pounds of other people's money for 'work' they have admitted they wouldn't have been doing anyway?

So what's your 'God given right' excuse?

No doubt you'll swerve that one as usual! ;)
