I have a slight issue with a stud wall in so much as I want to put a coat rack up. Space behind is a bit limited and I've just found Rawlplug Tap It's that seem to be able to do the job. Just wondering if anyone has used them - they're supposed to hold the weight of a radiator but that could be just advertising spiel :)

Could you not find one of the studs to get at least one good fixing?

There are 4 fixing points as there are 2 side by side racks so even finding one stud means the other 3 don't cover a stud

I have never used those fittings but I often use their Interset fittings

They are available in various lengths and diameters and have a load bearing that the Tap Its.

They use machine screws, which means that if you want to use counter sunk or dome head machine screws, you can.

Orbital are great, they will sell individual screws at very reasonable prices (min order of £25 for free delivery if delivered to nr London- £60 though for the rest of the UK).

The likes of Toolstation and Screwfix sell them as well. I would advise that you purchase the fixing tool as well but you can get away with hammering the fixing in and then tightening the screw until the wings pull back.

As an aside, I would say that whether you go for the Tap it or Interset, you may want you use a suitable sized space bit to rebate the rear hole by about 1mm to accommodate the collar on the fixing.

Other options include GripIt and nylon snap toggles. My garage is thermolite with battened plasterboard- I wanted to put up some Spur shelving.

I went for these.

They worked well but are expensive

x2 definatley need the proper tool, i've done it without before, and i ruined the plasterboard trying to tighten it to splay the wings out, the tool is only a few quid and well worth it.
