Siemens dishwasher won't start / odd behaviour / leaks

Thanks @YorkshireMidge - your detailed descriptions helped my out a lot. Sealed it with some silicone that came with my greenhouse - the only only stuff I had at hand.

Disassembling such a thing, and seeing the disgusting amounts of dirt in it, makes me wonder how clean clean is

@Engineer42 You're welcome. But just bear in mind as mentioned in the updates to the thread that using a sealant might still fail again in the long term, and the proper additional silicone seal kit is the way I would now recommend doing it as it will cope with the harsh conditions far better. The genuine part is 12005744, and is widely available for around £15-20.

Sadly, it's not the only bit of bad design. Worth taking a look at this if your machine is getting on a bit.

As I said the silicone was the only hammer available and now that I've taken it apart once I can do it again in a third of the time - I hope.
The disassembled machine was sitting in the middle of the kitchen, parts all over, pretty much making the room useless.. I had to do something.
The machine has been working nicely for the last 5 years - probably twice a day in average, so I'm not that disappointed in Siemens.
This little exercise gave the opportunity to clean it too. Found half a match, an un-popped popcorn and a piece of rubber !!
Stuck various places and probably not doing any good. How they made it past the micro filter is a good question.

Anyway - thanks again. I'm happy that I didn't have to throw it out.
The repairman we had visiting a few weeks ago couldn't find the problem but tightened the 4 screws saying that that might prevent the leak - he should now better - most likely did
