Author of Brexit now thinks it's a "political fiasco."

this was a tweet -I think Steve Baker was referring to the politics of brexit being chaos -not that brexit itself is chaos (although it is, only a dead monkey cant see that)

If the politics of something as monumental as Brexit are chaos, then the execution is likely to be chaotic. As we're seeing now. The idiots in charge are so wrapped up in ideological hatred of The EU that they rather damage The UK than comprimise.

that is true.

For example…NI problems could be eliminated by agreeing to follow EU standards on SPs controls and a few other things……where we are already aligned anyway. It could be solved in 24 hours.

but this govt are driven by propaganda and spin….so instead they will announcing a trade deal with NZ soon….to keep the Brexit supporters cheering manically.

That's on both sides of the pond TBF.

Rather than work on an outcome together it's all about political 1 upmanship.

That’s somewhat true, although the EU do have a long term view and know the UK will continue to be a major trade partner and this current UK govt won’t be in power for ever…sooner or later there will be some adults in the room. That’s why the EU have always offered extensions to deadlines.

And indeed requested extensions themselves and indeed halted legal proceedings against the UK. Relax Notchy, everything is going to be fine.

If you think the utter clusterfluck that is Brexit is fine, you must have a strange view of what success looks like.

but hey we might see as much as 17p off a bottle of Australian wine…..

It's worse than that. We really moved the EU in our direction when it came to regulations and medicine - its why the EMA was based in the UK. Now that has decamped to Amsterdam the MHRA has also lost its EU funding and work.

Did somebody say wine?

If Brexit is the huge success quitters say it will be, inflation will be a thing of the past surely?

50 year game.

As Keynes said in the long run we are all dead.

Brexit will always be a promised land in the future.

I really don't like the "teething problem" metaphor as after your done teething you have new teeth. Brexit is actually getting punched in the face and being left with dentures and missing teeth.
