Hi all, I have a Samsung Smart TV. It’s probably about 8-9 years old.

just purchased a fire stick and it just gives a blank screen after the initial fire tv logo.

I am reading it might not be HDCP compatible …..but surely all smart TVs would be…..

can anyone help please

If possible can you test it on another hdmi device, eg a PC monitor, or daisy chained through an AV amp?

The only other HDMI device I have is a mag254. The box appears but remote doesn’t move anything. I assumed the box was nackered but maybe a TV issue ‍♂️
Its an UHD 4K Samsung which is annoying cos I took a 4K fire stick back thinking it was due to the tv not being 4K.

the stick works on my other tv so def an issue between stick and TV

Sorry to hear that. The TV should be more than capable of supporting the stick.
So, if I understand correctly, the stick has been configured and works in another TV, but not on the Samsung?
Have you tried it in another HDMI port?
Looking at my FireStick now, there doesn't seem to be many options for display configuration.
You may have more luck with the TV settings.

I haven’t configured this one. I configured the last one that I took back thinking it mustn’t be working

Reading all sorts on the net, it’s the Samsung TVs ffs

Advice I've seen suggests using the HDMI extension cable (or if you were using the cable, stop using it and plug the stick straight into the TV!) and power cycle the TV. I.e. unplug it for 10 minutes (or longer) and try again.
...and just to be sure, you have got it (the FireStick) plugged in to the Supplied USB plug power adapter?

It seems to be an issue with the TV not 'seeing' the stick in the same way as it 'sees' other HDMI devices.
A solution could be to use an intermediary device such as an AV amp or a HDMI splitter.

.... Or go for a Chromecast! ;)

I’ve got a chrome cast somewhere
I thought that was to just mirror from phone to tv

Stick doesn’t fit in without adaptor

there is all sorts of supposed fixes online
Nothing works

Have you ever been to Argos and bought something just to try? Unpack it very neatly and no one will know it's ever been opened!

Maybe worth a try?

The latest version of the Chromecast, with Google TV is a very similar device to the FireStick. I'm afraid your old Chromecast will probably be mirroring only.

I already took the 4K fire stick back after unpacking and repacking neatly.

but…… on a plus side this fire stick plugs in directly to Tv and now works

I’m sure the 4K one didn’t which is why I couldn’t do it. Different size maybe
But at least it’s sorted!

Load kodi onto it and a couple of addons and you’ll never need sky/Netflix/Apple TV, Amazon prime…….even better with a Real debrid account at just over a couple of quid a month. ;)

Just a thought. Does this happen with all channels or only one?

I ask because our FireStick seems to stop working now and again, especially with ITV Hub, for some reason. Sometimes we have had to hold 'select' and 'play' in order to get the thing to work again. I've even contacted ITV about it.

This evening, when I turned to Channel 4, I was met with a completely black screen. Turning to another channel, everything was OK.

My FireStick often gets glitchy with iPlayer. Playback starts stuttering; the only fix - restart the stick!
