Afghanistan -is leaving the right thing?

*The Taliban, or "students" in the Pashto language, emerged in the early 1990s in northern Pakistan* following the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. It is believed that the predominantly Pashtun movement first appeared in religious seminaries - mostly paid for by money from Saudi Arabia - which preached a hardline form of Sunni Islam.

The promise made by the Taliban - in Pashtun areas straddling Pakistan and Afghanistan - was to restore peace and security and enforce their own austere version of Sharia, or Islamic law, once in power.

It was mid 1990's, AFTER warlords had fought their way in Kabul and laid waste to it, they rose to prominence after buying off opposition from southern afghanistan all the way into central lands.

Am I the only one that's had enough of the blanket Afghanistan coverage?

Suppose it's a change from Corona.

It's a nice time to bury bad news. So the Government extended the deadline before UK manufacturers had to comply with the UK Kite mark.

The EU was far from perfect but it was better than doubling the red tape for what? Warm beer in a Spoonies?

The people on the boats coming across know that now the UK made it even harder to repatriate those who do not have rightful claims for asylum.

This Government puts out spin and headline but when you dig into the detail its sparese or simply not there.

Thats not true. At all. Look deeper into this.

The Mujahideen name itself refers to "Islamic Fighters/Soldiers of Allah/Those Engaged in military Jihad". The Afghan mujahideen were made up of fighters from around the world, including many from Arab countries during the soviet war, many from Pakistan, some from India etc.

Once the war ended most of these Mujahideen went back home. Sone of the Afghan mujahideen then fought a civil war for power. When the taliban first emerged in 1994 in Kandahar, under Mullah Omar, from AFGHAN madrassas, a number of Afghan Mujahideen units joined forces with them. Then a lot of Pakistani Taliban joined them. By 1996 they swept to power through popular support from the Afghan masses. The rest is history.

Bodd is right, in time wise, however the 'mujahadeen' was composed of every tom , dick n harry that wanted the soviets out (they consisted of pushtans, tajiks, uzbeks, arabs/foreigners) AND wanted to rule over their ethnic areas, they had a varied mix of warlords that turned against each other in Kabul. They were all lumped under mujadaeen as they fought the soviets.

One thing for sure the AAF did not want to fight for corrupt leadership often composed of former 'mujahadeen' warlords like Abdul Rashid Dostum and Noor Attah.

All will have to deal with is

I doubt it - he isnt really part of the Taliban, more a security subcontractor. Their version of Blackwater.

America had to leave, it failed in its mission to impose its values and democracy on a nation that is a graveyard for empires, a nation that cannot be tamed. This nation has its own tribal/cultural/religious ways are are extremely proud of it. The last 20 years has seen lots of innocent Afghans killed by Western/Afghan forces via drones/night raids and bombing runs, this has worked against the west the result we are now seeing. We are also seeing the metropolitan privileged classes clamouring to get out, most have left now but many are still left.

If Pakistan gets shortened it's considered racist.

Afghan?
Imagine both being shouted. The first brings an image of a racist arsehole about to beat someone up. I've never head the second being shouted at someone, but the best I can imagine is an elderly person explaining what sort of rug they want.
