If you have a slight leak on an olive is ptfe wrapped around the olive or paste better? Iv always used ptfe around the olive if this happens and has always cured it. Thanks

May as well start a poll on answers, each have their favoured way. Some even use both.

My rule is :-
  • New fitting and olive should need nothing - I have bags of 100 copper olives and always use them, brass olives goes into my brass bag, never overtighten
  • Old nut and olive on new fitting or old fitting opened and remade - tape around olive
  • Old fitting where olive has been over compressed and pipe is necked, replace the olive and piece of pipe.

Some use PTFE, some use paste, some use nothing at all. I'm a paste man myself, because that's how I was taught

A roll of tape here because it does the job and takes less room up in my bag.

I discovered fernox ls-x earlier this year - I now use a thin smear of that on compression fittings.

Ptfe, you can do it one handed if you have the skill. Paste is a filthy mess.

You could tell an old plumber by the smell of boss white:sick:
