Very high Gas consuption

Hi,
My gas consumption is very high for a 2 people household - 3 bed detached house.
I have a pretty old gas boiler indirect system with new hot water cylinder and valves, Hive controller, gravity system and power shower.
Hot water energy seems very high.. any thoughts?

Total gas/year 23,000kwh
Hot water gas/year 10,700kwh
Hob gas/year 2,800kwh
Heating gas/year 9,500kwh

Boiler consumption 19.7kw, assuming 63% efficiency boiler to water 12.4kw.

Those figures, are they based on smart meter readings or have you metered each appliance?

.. hi, I measured gas consumption in summer with no heating and separated out hobs consumption by simple experiment..

Switch off everything and see if your gas meter is still going round.

My gas consumption for 4 bed house with is 42,000kw per year.

yours doesn’t seem too bad for a 3 bed house. I suspect your method of measuring the hot water gas consumption is flawed.

Our gas is about 13,000kwh per year - heating, hot water and hob. 3 bed semi with just the two of us. I’d expect a detached to use more but not as much as the OP. I averaged 225kwh per month for July and August when the heating must have been off so that’s only 2,700kwh per year for hot water and hob.

Well if your boiler is running at 63% and it's a heat only boiler bang in a condensing heat only boiler 98% efficiently if not more.

You can fit an open vented in it will fit in seamlessly

You may have to fit a prelagged hot water cylinder in.

Heat only condensing boilers are simple enough in themselves not many reasons for not fitting one.
