Hey guys, I've got one of these, a 2008 model, running rough and flashing all sorts of lights on the dash telling me to stop. My super cheap Autel diagnostic device is throwing up the code for No 3 cylinder injector open circuit. This seems a likely culprit for the problem. Anyone here ever done one? I understand they can be a nightmare to get out as they corrode into the head. So I've filled up the trough on the head that the injectors sit in with WD40 and can leave it like that for a few weeks. Is there a better product for such a task?

Also, out of interest, which is number 3? Count from the flywheel or the camchain? I can never remember with Renaults.

Typically Renault number the cylinders starting from the flywheel end which is number 1.
The injector is clamped in, no one can tell if it will come out easily so release the clamp and hopefully it will move. If it won't, don't get carried away, find a Bosch diesel specialist who can extract the thing without damage.
John :)

I should have mentioned, you can tell which injector is in the huff by measuring the diesel run off.....removing the leak off pipes from each one, the faulty one will leak off much more fuel.

I'd be surprised if you manage to get it out.

They tend to be seized in. If it is expect it to have to go to a specialist.

Worst case scenario and also not uncommon you'll have to get a new head.

You could try diesel, but not whilst its running, leave it overnight before trying to remove the injector. I once spent 19 hours trying to get one injector out of a Paxman Ventura 16 cylinder.

Good luck.

Could be a wiring/ connection fault. I would check resistance across each injector first, should have routhly same readings on all of them.
This will confirm if No 3 is at fault before trying to remove it.

Cheers to all responses, I'm still letting it soak for now. I wonder has anyone here ever had any joy with the slide hammer type puller kits available on fleabay?

Some times but be careful as they can ruin the thread on the injector if you go to mad.

Also I had a mechanic friend who swore by using cillit bang poured down the injector tubes to soak into and ear away at the carbon.

Ok, finally got around to looking at this! Have spoken to a couple of garages whose owners I know and trust, they tell me they won't touch these as they're more trouble than they're worth. There is only one diesel specialist around here who I don't trust. I've decided to have a go at removing the injector with this unorthodox method! As long as I only loosen the clamp rather than remove it surely the worst thing that can happen is that it just stays put?

What does anyone think about that? Apparently the retaining bolts are prone to seizing in the head and snapping as well, but I've managed to remove and refit all of those quite easily. Hopefully this might suggest the injectors won't be too seized as well.

Got to be worth a try, leave the clamp on but slackened. Dont want to scare you but I once spent 19 hours getting a single injector out of a paxman ventura 16 cylinder! Luckily the rest came out easy :D

That's the first I'd ever heard of this engine. I've now watched youtube videos of them. Lovely things!

I removed 4 injectors from a Honda accord 2.2 which are also notorious for seizing in, they leak through the crush washers and carbon gunk spreads up the bodies be fire going solid on the rocker cover sticking it all together.

I used Mr muscle oven cleaner to break down the solid carbon before running the engine to warm it all up and scraping off.

As suggested above I then also backed the clamp bolts out 1 whole turn with the engine running and they popped out one by one, following this they then also took some carefully wiggling up and down to get them all the way out
