Screw size help

Hi there.

I have a number Ikea Pax wardrobes, of which the retaining screw has been lost from four of them.

I took one of the existing screws to Ikea and they could not help as they have since changed the design of the hinges since I bought them.

Can anyone possibly help me find out how to order a new one please - exactly what to measure?

I am sure I could find the screw for a few pence but I have no idea how to find it online, first.

Possibly M5 Euro screws? (Also called kitchen hinge screws) Shortest ones I'm aware of, though, have a 9mm.thread length

It's not M5, the diameter is near M4. There's not enough thread to have a good guess at the thread pitch though - unless you can find another fitting (which is longer) and that happens to mesh exactly with that. Then measure more threads and divide, in order to get the pitch (the standard M4 fitting is M4x0.7mm)

Given you've said it's Ikea, I assume its metric. Don't discount it being UNC though

Euro screws are normally M5 or M6. Never seen an M4 one, but then we are talking IKEA here
 
Bit of a development - I contacted Ikea and they have offered to replace my hinges for free (seems that the ones I have are an old design and then new version does not have the problem with the screws falling out).

Thanks ever so much for everyone's help - learnt a lot about screw sizes, which is certainly a bonus.
