I've got a new engineered timber external door which I'm prepping (several coats) before hanging and the bottom rail seems to have shifted sideways!

It's mortice and tenon, and this is contrary to the whole purpose of an engineered door.

I can plane the closing edge and live with the gap on the hanging edge, but I wondered why this has occurred within a couple of weeks of delivery, and whether it will shift back after I've planned it.

The door was given a coat straight after unwrapping and is being kept outside but undercover to acclimbatise it.

I rekkon that door has at some point got very wet, been brought inside and dried quickly.

That or it was very poorly seasoned wood, but I think that's unlikely from a good door manufacturer.
