I have a boiler which was installed in November 2018, I had it serviced for 2 years to keep warranty. The plumber said it's not really worth it as all he can really do is check emissions. Is it worth annual service now warranty is void and put money to 1 side for repairs? Thank you

Checking emissions should be part of an annual service, other things should be done at the same time. Why is your warranty void, how long is it for and what does it cover?
Think of the annual checks as an MOT for your boiler- the emissions checks are done to make sure the thing doesn't kill you.

My boiler service comes as part of the boiler cover insurance I get with SSE.
It seemed worth it to me, considering the boiler is coming up to 15 years old and the cover offers a replacement boiler if a problem can't be fixed.
As above, the emmisions check is important, and gives you the opportunity to have a good chinwag with the service engineer - apparently these are interesting times at SSE and BG at the moment!
Prices range from £5 to £24 per month depending on the level of cover.

Well that's not a service, that's an emissions check. Call him back to do the job properly, or get someone else who will. Would you be happy if you took your car into the garage for a service and all they did was an emissions check and sent you on your way, no oil change, no brake check, no filters checked & cleaned/replaced, tyres not inspected etc etc?
What would there be to service in a boiler though to prevent failure? I appreciate oil and filters in a car need replacing yearly due to friction and to keep the air clean, what does a boiler actually need yearly to keep it tip top?

Some boilers have filters that need cleaning. Some have expansion vessels which should be topped up. Some have gaskets which are perishable and require inspection or replacement at regular intervals. Combustion chambers often need inspecting to ensure they're clear of debris, and cleaning if they're not. Condensate traps need cleaning and testing to ensure adequate flow. A myriad of other things too.
