Getting sticker residue off a placemat

Used this stuff. After using I wiped over with damp cloth. I guess lighter fluid isn't a healthy chemical to put on an eating surface so will wiping it with another cloth remove that or it'll evaporate?

We are old-fashioned and use plates for eating off. I've accidentally tried once just pouring spag bol straight on the mat but found it kept running off the edge. Is it safe to eat off the table?
 
Only if the table is finished with a food safe finish...
 
Could use isopropyl alcohol, which will completely evaporate away and is perfect for things like this.
