A brexit benefit

no fuel, no energy, no food, HELLLP!

No fuel - well done, we've cut carbon emissions!
No energy - well done, we've cut carbon emissions even more!
No food - well done, we're tackling obesity!

Brexit, the political movement that just keeps on giving.

The availability problems at some petrol stations are being exacerbated by panic buying, for which I have a solution:

Minimum purchase.

Initially it would have to be based on whatever the smallest tank size there is, but it shouldnt take too long for the DVLA to get a web page up which looks up the actual size from reg number. Take off an allowance for a workable minimum level in the tank, and hey presto - the difference is what you must buy. Or, since enforcing actual minimum volume would be technically difficult, what you must pay for.

e.g., topping up your tank when you only need 10l? Fine - go ahead, but youre going to pay for 50l.

In time, both maximum limits (rationing) and minimums (anti-panic) could be programmed into pumps.

Either that, or the media could just be a bit more responsible and not cause the panic buying in the first place.

Fatima went from ballarina to cyber.

Now she has to train as a HGV driver.
Or is it nursing
Or fruit picking......
Assuming she has enough fuel to get to training.

There’s a shortage of cheap, exploited workers you mean.

Generally speaking, a shortage of workers makes for higher wages, that in turn encourages U.K. workers into those jobs

but higher wages….means higher prices.

Who suffers the most from high costs of food, fuel, rent…….poor people.

And English people don’t want menial jobs like fruit picking….it’s both hard work and itinerant.

Yes, BP is rationing petrol to it's stations because they have a shortage and distribution problems. Why is this so difficult for you to understand? Why are you imaginging ration books? I can only assume because you suffered rationing in WW2 that you can't comprehend that rationing has any other meaning. Maybe you're just tired and fractious. All that driving can take it out of you, though you may have to cut back if the fuel situation worsens.

Does this help? (See last line - highlighted) -

Im low on fuel and called into my usual garage (a shell) and they were only allowing £20 per person….so I didn’t bother, I’ve got a 1/4 tank and no need to go far

Now that we may have to stay shivering in our unheated homes this winter and because there's no fuel for our cars to take us to the shops where there won't be anything to buy anyway, even if we could afford basics that inflation is making unaffordable, and we may not be able to drown our sorrows in the pub through lack of beer - I get the impression that project fear actually underplayed the disaster that awaited us in Brexit Britain.

So, Notch - would you say they are rationing fuel?

Johnny's such a knob. Will endlessly argue the toss over nothing to show how wrong he is.
