Hi I've a Tribune range tank. Recently I've noticed a slight amount of water dribbling via the tundish. I've pressurised the expansion tank to 3 bar, as per instructions, but now when I turn the hot water tap, the pressure is good for a few seconds but then I can here "water hammering" near the unvented tank and the water pressure drops.
The system was installed in 2013/14.

I've got my CH covered by british gas, but they have told me they dont cover anything that requires a G3 qualified engineer. So I'm about to ditch BG.

Ive just been in contact with a gas safe engineer, who says he is G3 qualified ?

He want to charge me £80 to service my boiler and another £60 to service my Un Vented tank, I think he is trying to charge me twice when surly the £80 should cover everything.
Ive asked him to show me his G3 certificate, but he made an excuse of not carrying it on his van????

Why should it be £80 for the two? £80 is less than I charge for a gas boiler service (and almost certainly cheaper than BG), and it's not "buy one, get one free" when a customer wants a second appliance doing at the same time.

Hi David, I'm a G3 registered person (until next March anyway that's when my ticket runs out and if I don't pay up to re-register then I suddenly become unsafe to work on unvented systems - crazy init)?

I'm getting carried away here and guess you are not really interested in trade politics and just want some idea what's up which is a faulty pressure reducing valve which protects the cylinder from excessive pressure, it's faulty and needs changing.

sevotech,

sevotech,
Either that or one of the other possible faults which are more likely

No, not at all, why do you think that?

The government tells us so and they're always right.

No, I do get quite a few of these faults Mugsy. The static pressure is normal but open up a tap and the pressure quickly drops off and in some cases stops running altogether - it's the pressure reducing valve that's at fault alright.
Static pressure is when the system is stood with no taps running.
Dynamic pressure is the pressure when water is being drawn off.

servotech,

What do they say then?

You don't have to be "G3 registered" to carry out installations, but you do need it to self certify. You can continue by notifying the installation to the applicable local authority.

You don't suddenly become unsafe.

That's odd. I have BG cover and when I had a problem recently with discharge through the tundish they fitted a new inlet control group. It was Dyno who did the job. Mind you, I asked the guy if he was G3 qualified before I let him do the job and he didn't know what I was talking about. I said it was the un-vented qualification and he said they were all un-vented qualified. Hmmm.

Edit.... That said, I have plumbing cover through them.
