Just moved into a nine year old house. It has a pressurised cylinder on landing and Ideal boiler Icos HE12 boiler in kitchen cupboard. Pipework's small bore. Bought a bleed key and tried a couple of rads and this is what's coming out - tarry stuff but no sediment. Is this rust or do some inhibitors have a colour to them? It does smell a bit like the Sentinel I use, but I've never seen this colour before.

Flush and re inhibit?

I should add heating seems to work fine.

I’d want mine to be clear so if it was me, I’d drain and flush the system. I’d take each individual rad off, take them outside and flush through several times with a hose giving them a good shake up to dislodge any sediment. I'd then refill with some cleaner, run the system for a while then drain and flush several times, then add inhibitor.

If you've just moved in, better to now make it your system rather than previous owners!
It it were me, I'd overhaul it and wouldn't be left guessing :)
