Boiler question

I've just re-read the thread and see that the 2nd opinion guy re-pressurised the system and left the heating off.

After leaving it for 24 hours you said the pressure did not drop.

This suggests you don't have a leak in the pipes. The expansion vessel is knackered and needs replacement.

At the moment the boiler is over pressurising when heating is on and opening the pressure relief valve.

This is probably why the old valve that has been replaced was leaking in the first place.

Thank you. How much does replacing the expansion vessel ( parts & labour ) cost ?
I also have Bosch's option to pay £50 for 6 months or claim against my home insurance.

Go for the bosch option.
It's good value for supply and fit of new EV and you get the added protection of the next component to fail being covered.
Not bad on a 10 year old unit.

Might not need an expansion vessel, might just need pressurising, but the WB engineer will know

WB engineer came. Played around with the boiler and his verdict was you have a leak, a big leak somewhere. Get a track and trace company.

this is in confliction with your earlier post where you said the system was pressurised, the boiler left off other than for hot water and the pressure did not drop.

which suggested there wasn't a leak.

id have thought if it were a big leak it would be quite evident, though i remember a previous thread on here where the leak was actually in the conservatory in the wall behind a skirting board, he had track and trace people round and they never found it, then he got a plumber over and was found within 20 minutes.. when the op put a photo up it was clearly obvious it was leaking there, but the op didnt notice and just put it down to the conservatory being a damp place

And read post #12 again

Copy-pasted engineer's report above.

Better get on your hands and knees, pulling up carpets and floor boards downstairs looking for water.

Rang home insurance and trace and access came and had a look and found a leak.
Trying to ring local plumbers now.

So, I had a plumber come round and he fixed the leak and boiler is now working as normal. Happy days!
He mentioned that whoever had done the joint work had not done it properly. He merely tugged at the pipe and it came off.

I am also delighted at the payment method used. You don't have to run to get cash. You get an invoice by post and simply pay that by card over the phone or do BACS.
