Epoxy resin, google enamel repair kit or bath repair kit. but its going to be difficult to match perfectly. You could paint and clear lacquer it.

Polishing grout off should not have chipped the tile. What did you polish it with?
Tetrosil make a "clear" two pack filler. I mix waterbased paints with it to colour match.

You will never get a perfect match though given that the tile is not a constant colour.
Did you tile the room?
It might be "better" to cut through the grout and replace the tile.

no someone else tiled ... I know wiping grout marks off didn't cause it , that's just how I realised that it was a chip when it wasn't wiping off ..... I fear cutting the tile and replacing is a) beyond my skillset and b) would mean the only shower being out of action again after 2 weeks for the original job ...and she's just not going to have that ..but thanks for the help anyhoo ...

I didn't want to say, but you have, yeah, I agree that it looks likely that "someone" used grout to hide the damage. I have no idea how that could have happened though. Aren't they porcelain tiles? Can you see any dents in the slower enclosure?
Ultimately, whoever tried to hide the damage should sort it out. That said, any tradesman that would do that is dishonest and clearly has no interest in replacing the tile.
If faced with a job like that, I would hope to remove the tile and replace it in one day (other things being equal), and then grout it a few hours later, but you would be without a useable shower for a day.
Ceramic not porcelain, with a very thin matt finish to the glaze. Personally I think its just a fault on the tile where the glaze has crazed a little then iv'e rubbed at it, there seems to be a similar spot on another tile in a different part of the bathroom (like a slightly raised feel to the touch area). As for the hiding the fault thing, his second name wasn't of Nazareth but everything I saw about the way he worked would suggest otherwise ..... also it was not at all evident for the first week after he left
