Hi folks,

Please bear with me on this one...Our poorly thrown together house of 12 years aged needed a revamp of the downstairs shower room, I'm a stonemason to trade, have my HNC Building but obviously not clued in to every trade. Cut it short, rotten rusting radiator, removed and took all ancillary fittings out , and at one side there used to be a TRV(removed because the building regs stated that there had to be a permanent heat escape/leak), I removed the bits with a 30mm spanner... all good. On the other side it's all different, I was planning to keep it simple, re-use the appropriate bits, extend the tails (It was Uponor, when they removed the TRV they simply bent the 14mm pipe over...Oh how I hate Uponor)...but now I realise this is a "standard" tail fitting, and the other end looks like it has an olive where it connects to the lock shield valve... are these disposable, there looks no way of removing the olive (shi$e design)..... May be a trip to William Wilson with a bag of bits lol

Any advice appreciated... and on rebuilding the connections I've got Jointing Compound for the copper faces which I believe mate up ok.... for all threads it will be PTFE and paste.... but again, any advice from you pros is welcome....

Thanks!!

If it’s an olive, then sometimes you can knock the old one off using a hammer and flat spanner, or is it a 3/4 fitting like this:

Cheers for the replies and should have got the camera out... It seems it's a mix of 15mm and on the opposite side a 3/4".... Which begs the question is this all reusable or am I best to drain the whole lot down(maybe wise after 11 years?), Separate the lockshields and renew them... I did also hear that uponor has fallen out of favour...( How possibly at 14/20mm that marries up with no standard plumbing ?!) Had nightmares with this stuff battering fittings into the pipes to cross over to 15mm... A joiner did some work next door, drilled through a pipe and a plumber came around who'd never seen uponor and had to bodge JG speedfit into it... ....

I don’t recall having issues re-using 3/4 types, 15mm ones either renew tail, olive or if you can get ptfe tape on the olive, then re-use.

Thanks CBW. Yes the research I've done re the 3/4 indicated that nothing PTFE or paste is needed. I may just feel the surfaces and if anything is off, give it a wee buff down with a scourer. I'm just trying to avoid draining the whole system. But it may be unavoidable... Top advice re shunting off the olive.... That's the experience showing... Ever need any advice about masonry etc get in touch( not being presumptuous that you may be a very well versed already....)
