Help with a PIR fitting

I have had this external PIR in the garage for what must be about 20 years, and true to form I'm just getting around to fitting it.

Trouble is, again true to form, I've lost the instructions.

Apparently it allows a main spotlight to be connected plus additional lower wattage constant courtesy lights which brighten on movement detection.

My plan is just to have two LED wall lanterns (connected via one connection) switched by this PIR, but would I use L1 or L2 - or would it not matter if I tried one then if necessary the other and I would not blow anything up

I imagine you input to L N and earth and the appliance 1 on L1 and N and appliance 2 on L2 and N. The bad news is it might not like LEDs

I fitted a PIR with L1 & L2 terminals (not this make / model though) N and L were the 230V supply, and L1 & L2 were a voltage free contact. So I added a link between L and L1, making L2 the switched live to the light.

It doesn't mean that yours is the same though, but if you were to wire up the N & L on a bench and test L1 & L2 with a multimeter, you can find out what is what.

Likely L1 would be the "Main" and L2 the "Courtesy" lights, but it would not matter if you reversed them, during a test set-up, since the supply for both lamps is 240/230V.
However, while it is certain that incandescent "courtesy" lamps would be "dimable", even "dimable" LEDS may not work properly.

You may need to "experiment" to find out which lamps will work.

Start with two similar incandescent lamps, one on each circuit.
The one that DIMS when the other is OFF is on the courtesy circuit.

It does say on the box, "not suitable for energy saving lamps" but I took that to mean CFLs, as I doubt LED bulbs were even on the radar 20 years ago.

They always say that, but I've been doing it for years.

The dimmer will not work.

Yes good suggestions to experiment first with some test circuits. I normally just jump straight in an see what happens but I'll make an exception this time.

Righty then, me and my eyebrows are still here after testing and then installing the PIR.

It was L1 for the main light activation. I could not test L2 for the curtesy lights as I did not have any dimmable bulbs, but it's now functioning as planned so that'll do.
