garage door beeping away

My garage door has been beeping and the battery indicator has been lighting up. I assumed it was the batteries that detect whether there are any obstructions. I replaced them but it hasn't made a difference.

When I move it in either direction, it moves an inch or two and the stops with beeps being generated by the panel.

I have killed the power and restarted it but it hasn't made a difference.

Any suggestions please?

I havent been able to download the manual, but it could possibly be a fault with the obstruction detection, rather than a low battery alarm - the led will illuminate for both.

However, are you sure the batteries are new?
Is there any sign of corrosion on the battery terminals?

Is the obstruction detection an optical system and if so can you clean it?

If you have access to the manual, see if there is a troubleshooting section, otherwise you may need a call out from a service engineer.

...and as the obstruction detection is a safety critical feature, it's not worth messing with it yourself!

The batteries measure 5vdc on my fluke tester. It’s the same for the old and new batteries.
I can’t see any sign of corrosion on the terminals.

I thought that this battery compartment was the detection mechanism? It’s completely clean.

I was wondering if there was a way to bypass the obstruction mechanism to determine if this is where the fault is. If this is faulty, I could order a new mechanism and replace this. Looks pretty small and hopefully straightforward…

My mistake, yes that is the obstruction detector - I did say I didn't find the manual!

Have you seen this installation video?
It might help you check the condition of the wires inside.


It concerns me that you say the batteries read 5V. The lithium cells in the video are 3.6V each. Do you have a different battery pack to those?

Another possibility is how it connects to the controller. The label says 2.4GHz on it so I presume it connects wirelessly to the controller. Could there be a pairing issue?
We really need to find the manual!

The reading surprised me too. The batteries are definitely labelled up as 3.6v. I tested the existing and new batteries with the same results.

Thanks for sharing the manual too.
- I can run through the test on page 14 to see if there is life in the bottom slate transmitter.
- My inclination is to switch off dipswitch 1 in the control panel to see if the door works. This should isolate the bottom slat receiver and indicate whether that's where the fault lies?

I think that's the point at which I will need to call out a specialist. Please let me know if there's anything else that's worth including in my tests. Will report back.

On my unit ( which looks the same as yours ) if the batteries are low in the unit you can open / close it by holding your finger on the up/ down button ….it takes a few seconds for it to kick in …

I tried this. The up button (whether pressed instantly or held down) moves the door up a few inches and it then stops. You can then keep doing this to move it up slightly each time. The down button has no effect apart from sounding 2 beeps.
Once open, I had to manually close.

I literally have an instruction manual in-front of me as I have an issue with mine too at the moment, Stopped working after I changed the battery's as the safety edge and control unit seem to have lost the pairing and I cannot repair them (light on the safety edge will not come on when pushing the pair button).
I am hoping my issue is that I put in some cheaper battery's from ebay that are 2700mah instead of the 2600mah, Although its the same battery's I took out I know they are not the original ones which are these that come with the safety edge in the original box:

Sounds like you have a different issue though as 2 beeps indicate a motor problem.
I'm getting 5 beeps for safety edge issues. Door works up fine but I have to hold to run (deadman mode) it to come down.

As RandonGrinch said batteries should be 3.6v not 5v!

Update!
I just went to have another little look at my door pushed the safety edge button, Light flashed, Connected and all works fine again! Totally random as I have been playing with it all week on and off!
I wonder if the 2700mah batteries I put in were a touch too powerful and with a few days being fitted they have drained a little and are now detected, Weird!

Anyway good luck with your issue but 2 beeps is motor related, Door should always still go up normally with just a safety edge issue as that only come into effect with closing.
If you open your control unit a led 2 is the only one flashing you know that is paired to you control unit and should be working.
Do make a note of the codes on your control box and safety edge as the Teleco N09 does have a few variations over the years with different codes and slight variations in the instructions.

Might be worth trying the turn off/ dip switch method to deactivate you safety edge completely. That should help to narrow down motor or safety edge issues.

UPDATE: I opened up the control panel and set Dip Switch 1 to off, this didn't make a difference. the door goes up a few inches and then stops. There is no operation in a downward direction.


I notice that when the unit is powered up, I get one long beep.

I did also try my two pole tester in the terminals on the right (just off the picture. sorry), I don't detect any power in them. Don't know if I should be...

Sounds like motor or safety brake issues then.
Assuming you can wind both up and down manually? If so its not the brake and must be the motor

Different make of door with a few variations but this is a pretty good video for diy replacement

Yes, manual operation is fine in both directions.
