Someone else go please, I can never think of a good question. I’m not very good with answers either, I only knew that because it’s the GPO that is used in Edinburgh and I assumed that every town used their GPO as the central point to measure distances.

"Herb" is botanically something about the presence of a woody stem, it doesn't specify the morphology of the fruit. Wikipedia says...

-
NOT Charing Cross !!

Measuring point of London is a strange one. I always "knew" it was Charing Cross.
But it's not clear, cos there's a plaque just south of Trafalgar Square by a statue of CHarlie 1 which sayeth it's there.

This BBC article is self contradictory:
https://rodcorp.typepad.com/photos/variousthings/centrelondon_mileage.html#tp
First line says Charing X, but later in the text:
The original cross was south of Trafalgar Square where the statue of King Charles I now stands. A plaque can be found on the floor behind the statue stating that mileage distances on road signage are still measured from this point.
"On the site now occupied by the statue of King Charles was erected the original Queen Eleanor's Cross, a replica of whch stands in front of Charing Cross station.
Mileages from London are measured from the site of the original cross."

There's one for QI!
http://rodcorp.typepad.com/photos/variousthings/centrelondon_mileage.html#tp

Well the Original Cross was by Traf Sq. WHich makes it MOTTIE's yes?

I can't fnd anything on HIghways Agency etc site.
Ordnance Survey may be worth a shot.

Other suggestions, some of which sound like possibles , are mentioned here:

AN article with more discursive verbage:

I didn't really follow that...

[This is just an off topic rant...... Not aimed at anyone here, at least not right now: Trying to analyse what people put on forums is sometimes just a waste of life.

I'm an admin on one (technical) forum, and a member of another.
On the techy forum we have nothing off topic.. It's just evolved that way. "Collegial". Rather dry, but there's zero cráp, just an occasional strange comment. Everyone knows who the mods are. On this one certain people are suspected, er, obviously.

The one where I'm a member is run by a particular sex, on the whole. You make a post expressing a point of view, and all the claws come out remembering something you posted which they didn't like. So ALL the posts are really superficial. If you do anything like calling someone a name, you're barred permanently. The mods are there, openly. They seem to post just to be able to say something, and they have a clique of followers.

Were I last worked, there was a mantra that you shouldn't use any form of open social media, even anonymously - everybody had had pointless grief. It's probably right!

I feel better now... :) ]

Is this a quiz question?

The answer to your question is
NO.
The clue is where it says off topic rant.

Over to You!

Actually it's Mottie's go.

Or anyone with an urge?

I can mostly only think of questions which are too hard, too easy, or I'm not sure myself.

I'll have a go..

In 1978 what significant change did the island of
Okinawa off Japan take in line with the rest of the country
