Dc power socket panel mount

Hi,
Dc power socket on circuit board of a radio scanner.
This is the part that you plug the charger into when charging the internal battery.

Basically need to replace mine as middle pin missing hence not charge.
Currently still trying to locate part but in the mean time can you advise.

Old part had 3 pins where 2 outside pins had continuity so both earth.
Middle pin is live.

I have some standard female sockets but not one that will fit the pcb so i was thinking of joining the 2 outside wires at the pcb and connecting to my female socket. Also middle connection on pcb to socket.

Any reason why this then shouldn’t allow a charge until the correct part arrives.

...I've had a scanner in the past, I'm just wondering how much there is left to scan for, now most things are digital?

I can't see any problems with your proposal but you need to ascertain if the connector breaks the battery supply, similar to a headphone jack ......have you considered Farnell Electronics for your search?

I'd forgotten about Tandy, that's actually where I bought my scanner from in the first place!

Ebay has them too.
Can you take a good close up photo of yours so the exact one can be traced?

IMO many actually have them wrongly wired, the switch IMO should be used for the positive thus making the middle pin 0v.
Although seeing items wired this way is rare.

Although it doesn't matter if you break the + or 0v, if you have a common 0v that's also grounded it can.

In many cases the socket has a switch operated to open circuit when the plug is inserted, your pins 2 and 3

This switch ensures the internal circuits are not powered when the charging plug is inserted. This protects the internal circuits from any damage that could occur from the charger. The voltage from the charger has to be higher that the normal battery voltage in order to charge the battery.
