I've just got a lawfull development certificate for a 12x7.5m garage outbuilding. I've got to build it below 2.5m, well I got a little more as the ground at the rear will be approx 300mm higher. Now I know i should be getting building regs but I'm just deciding on the layout first. Would anyone care to give an educated guess on a steel size I may require. I plan to divide the internal 11.5m width with a block wall leaving a garage area approx 7m deep by 9m wide. I then plan to install a 9m steel down the centre, then roofing joist from the centre 3.5m to the front and back walls, these will be fitted so they create the fall for an obs roof which will then be grp or rubber, not yet decided. What sort of steel am I looking at for this?
My other option if I want an open garage is to steel twice front to back, then joist between the steels at approx 3.8m intervals, I guess this may allow a smaller steel?
