If a person sneaks into or arrives in this country without the proper papers, that is an illegal act, they are illegal immigrants. WHEN they claim asylum, they are no longer classed as illegal whilst their case is being heard. They are 'illegal' up to the point they claim asylum.
They are refugees up to the point that they claim asylum, then they become asylum seekers.Himmy stated that it's perfectly legal to cross the channel in a dinghy, enter the country via illegal means and claim asylum. I pointed out that doing so is illegal, up until the point that they claim asylum, then they have the legal protection of asylum laws.
If you think that being a refugee is illegal, then you're off your trolley.
Then we have the refugees who are rescued, they have not landed, they are not, according to you, 'illegal immigrants', they are refugees, and they can seek asylum while half-way across the channel.
I repeat, no proper papers are needed to seek asylum.
