Government vote to dump sewage in our waters

Who's defending it. We're saying it's been going on here and elsewhere for years.

A proposal from the Lords to the Environment Bill that would have placed legal duties on the companies to reduce discharges was defeated by 265 MPs' votes to 202 last week.

Last Wednesday, 265 MPs voted with the government to reject an attempt by the House of Lords to toughen up the approach to the discharge of sewage, while 22 Conservative MPs rebelled and voted against the government.

Peers had tabled an amendment to the Environment Bill that would have forced water companies and the government to demonstrate progressive reductions in discharges of untreated sewage and required them to "take all reasonable steps" to avoid using combined sewer overflows.

You are defending it by trying to dismiss it by saying it's always been happening - understand what the vote was about.

I thought once we left the EU we could strengthen our environmental standards.

I think there has been a news update on this.

Euphemism for U-Turn.

How many times do you have to defend Tory policy only to have egg on your face after the inevitable u-turn?

You must have some self respect left?

You are right U-TURN in bold. Looks like this shambles of a Government has again changed its mind.

So you defending this u-turn now?
My comment was nothing to do with politics, it more to do with how sewage systems work.

I hadn't particularly defended this one, but surely you must be delighted at the news.
As the barman said to the horse: 'why the long face?'

Well then surely other peoples votes are none of yours then. But wait a minute! You actually started several threads titled 'Who are you going to vote for...'

https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/who-are-you-going-to-vote-for.520691/
https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/so-who-are-you-going-to-vote-for.534208/

And in another thread you ask the question of others that you think is nobody's business when you are asked. Unbelievable! If I'm a 'creepy old stalker' for asking you that question once, what does that make you who has been asking it for years?

What a ****ing hypocrite you are although we already know that anyway.

Now off you pop, have a whinge, get the thread locked and my post removed.
Aaaaaand....silence again.

It's a funny thing.

Useless Eustace ordered his sheep to flock through the "No" lobby to defeat the amendment

The sheep were ordered to say it was impossible and unaffordable.

Today he has reversed his opinion and his sheep will support him in walking backwards.

1) Was it true last week? If so, why is it not true this week?

2) Did he sincerely believe his own words last week?

The Marine Conservation Society warned earlier this year that without the European Bathing Water Directive, which was introduced in 1976, British beachgoers would still be swimming in sewage. Back then, Britain was labelled the ”dirty man of Europe“.

Rachel Wyatt, water quality programme manager at the MCS, said last night that EU directives have been ”instrumental“ in cleaning up water quality at UK beaches

It’s Jolly good being part of the European Union (y)
