We are having the road resurfaced between 6 pm and 3 am and although clearly don't want the noise we do want the road fixed, so put up with it.

However the reversing beeper I would have thought should be turned off after 11:30 pm.

Why are they working at night? They entirely resurfaced our road a few weeks ago, entirely during the normal working day, a few weeks ago. There are two bends, they did it in three equal sections, done section at a time, one side, then the other with temporary lights, maintained everyone's drive access. Scrapped the old off, laid a new fancy spec. surface. All done super efficiently. Then before they had even reinstalled the speed bumps, the gas people came along and dug it back up to lay new pipes :(

When plans were unveiled for a 24hr operating warehouse to be built locally vehicle/forklift reversing bleepers were by far the biggest concern for residents living in our rural area.
Thankfully the developers went bust & the plan was never re-visited.

It's called forward planning

I am sure they will not be laying new gas pipes, no gas in the area, roads are closed 6 pm to 3 am but residents can still get access, it is for many the only viable road, detour is around 5 miles, and during the day the disruption would be huge, I have no objections to night working it makes sense, but reversing beepers every so often is one thing, but on a road roller which is going back and to all the time it is working is OTT.

There are loads of steam rollers in the area which do not have reversing beepers, and on the local railway gala they are going to and fro all day, with the general public milling all round them, the drivers do have all round vision and often no seat they stand up, so and turn around when going in other direction, I will not say reversing as often better if the boiler is behind one, as better view, but the norm is to have boiler at the front as other wise it is rear wheel steer.

OK can't really use the steam rollers as most have rubber tyres fitted to give driver a better ride, but the engines are much quieter, more environmentally friendly as far as noise pollution until they blow their whistles.

You couldn't make it up.

You put these people in a brewery and they would struggle to get squiffy.....

the beapers will be a health and safety requirement but usually not a retrofit requirement
road roller being an item known for lasting many many years often fourty plus years will be fitted to standard to comply at the time

That's the problem with today's management, I spend the final 15 years of my working life with such people who were highly qualified in their chosen subject, but when it came to common sense they made a rocking horse look intelligent.
These people get by with shed loads of bullshit & the knowledge that their superiors are doing the same ... nobody is accountable for their actions.

BTW Reversing beepers if not required are normally turned off by putting into reverse gear taking it out straight away then putting back in.

When utilities and the council or DfT intend to carry out works onthe highway they have a statutory obligation to give other interested parties written prior notification of the scope of their intended works and the schedule of works. This is so that the other utilities, etc can dig their holes at the same time in order to reduce disruption and the need to repair a road which has just been surfaced. Used to come under PUSWA (Public Utilities Services Work Act) but since 1991 has come under the New Roads and Street Works Act. The fact that the responsible people can't get their heads around the need to co-ordinate is no surprise to me

We get regular letters warning of any works on the water main system, such as when they do a regular pipe flush out. We also have a main line railway running 100 yards to the rear and when ever over night works are needed, we get a letter in advance, detailing when and what. Our street is between two local stations and if the line is closed for work during travel times, they run a coach service to fill the gap.

Rather strangely, we have had the coaches up and down the street for the past three months - but only the odd one or two per day and irregular, rather than the more usual coach every 30 minutes passing, without hearing or being advised of any works taking place. SWMBO recently took a trip up to Edinburgh, so to avoid her missing her connection, I rang them to ask if they were aware of any closure at our local station - no they weren't they said.

If any youngsters are due to visit, I usually tell them I have a full size model railway at the end of my garden for them to play with. Of course they don't believe me, even when they get here, because the line is in a cutting, but you can see them by climbing a pair of steps in the back garden, or from a local bridge. We quite regularly have the Flying Scot and Mallard, plus several others going past :)
